Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

790

For those who take their health seriously, this test helps uncover the mineral patterns written into each strand.

Unlike many tests that reflect only what is happening in the bloodstream in that given moment, hair analysis provides a window into the past few months. As hair grows, minerals and trace elements are deposited into the hairs strand.

At Éthos, the process is handled entirely in clinic. Your sample is carefully collected by a Trichologist, ensuring the hair is taken in the correct method to support more reliable results. After the sample has been analysed by the laboratory, the results are interpreted by a Trichologist rather than simply emailed as a report. In a follow up appointment, the findings are reviewed with you, and the key patterns are explained. The aim is to translate data into something genuinely useful, allowing you to uncover more insight into your health.

What does HTMA measure?

HTMA measures mineral and trace element patterns these include calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, copper, iron, manganese, chromium, selenium, phosphorus, cobalt, molybdenum, lithium, and boron, as well as selected toxic elements such as aluminium, mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and nickel.

How is HTMA different from blood tests?

Blood tests show what is circulating at that moment and are tightly regulated by the body. HTMA reflects what the body has deposited over time. This makes it useful for identifying longer term mineral patterns that may not appear in standard bloodwork, especially when symptoms persist despite “normal” results.

How is the hair sample collected?

Several hairs are cut close to the scalp from various discreet areas. The process is quick, painless, and non invasive. The sample is then prepared and sent to the laboratory for analysis.

What conditions or concerns is HTMA commonly used for?

HTMA may be used as part of an investigative approach for chronic hair shedding, brittle hair, scalp inflammation and suspected mineral imbalances that may influence follicle function.

Are there any contraindications or limitations?

HTMA may be less reliable if hair is heavily bleached, chemically treated, or contaminated with certain topical products, it should not replace medical testing.

Will this tell me exactly what supplements to take?

No, HTMA does not prescribe supplements or provide a one size fits all formula. It highlights mineral patterns and imbalances that may be influencing hair and scalp health, which are then interpreted by the trichologist in the context of your history, symptoms, diet, and any existing bloodwork. Supplement recommendations, if appropriate, are considered carefully and conservatively, rather than dictated directly by the report. HTMA informs decisions, it doesn’t replace clinical judgement or personalized care.
